Find a Realistic Launch Angle in a Net

Modified on Thu, 18 Dec at 1:58 PM

Training with a net can be incredibly efficient and effective. But to get the most out of it you will want to recreate your real on-the-course shots in your net. For players with a shorter net this can be tricky, since throwing in the middle of a standard 7-foot net will be an unnaturally low aiming point just a few feet off the ground.

The iOS and Android apps will offer some help if you're having this problem. See the GIF below for an example.

Marking a few aiming points can help make throwing into a net more natural. We recommend most players mark out a few aiming points:

Flat Launch Angle = 0 degrees

This helps you understand where the horizon is for your throw. Throwing above this marker will result in throws going up into the air. If you want to throw downhill then aim below it!

High Launch Angle = 10 degrees

This sets an upper limit for your launch angle. Most normal throws in an open field be thrown with +5 to +10 degrees launch angle. Throwing higher than this should be saved for intentionally high shots.

Finally, adjust the flight numbers of your simulated disc until it matches your real world disc flight. Check out these articles for more information about flight numbers and changing simulated discs
